#Abstract
Based on the analysis of the newspaper “Estrela Polar” (Lamego, 1907-1908), this article aims to present the development of the Catholic social movement in Portugal at the beginning of the 20th century. Directed by Artur Bívar, one of the most enthusiastic Catholic journalists of his time, the “Estrela Polar” endeavoured to mobilize the clergy and society of the city of Lamego around the Church’s social purposes.
