#Abstract
To discover José Régio’s religious side in the intricacy of his works is a constant and never-ending challenge. To do so in the light of religious phenomenology allows us to learn more about the man, the creator, his torments and his life history. An overview of his works (namely, Confissão dum Homem Religioso, Mas Deus é Grande, As Encruzilhadas de Deus, Cântico Suspenso, Poemas de Deus e do Diabo, A Chaga do Lado and many others), from an analytical perspective was essential in broadening our perception of the “young teenager who accepted familiar and traditional truths”, his “to believe not believing”, the “labyrinth”, the “man crushed between God and the Devil”, and also the man who states: “… And in the silences of my verse, Speak you! Oh Supreme Voice of the Universe”.
