Tratar a morte por tu : Vergílio Ferreira e o homem-esqueleto no romance Em Nome da Terra
Ana Seiça Carvalho
Documento (.pdf)
AbstractThrough the narrator-main character of the romance In The Name of the Earth, Vergílio Ferreira develops the description of the physiologic decay of the body that is. The boned body that lives and resists, but which is progressively not inhabited, with the inexorability of human senescence. João Vieira, left alone in a retirement home, sees himself in Dürer’s painting Crowned Death on a thin horse, that statically takes life, gloriously crowned – «It’s the most ridicule image of Death, and maybe that’s why I brought it here inside.» in In The Name of the Earth1. In the perception of its own finitude, the old amputated man, runs into his memory, turning back to a time before the body degeneration, as if the true “self” was hidden behind a nightmare mask.
