O MACE: da Colecção Privada à Fruição Pública
Adelaide Manuela da Costa Duarte
Documento (.pdf)
AbstractThe Elvas Museum of Contemporary Art António Cachola Collection (MACE) opened to the public on July 6, 2007, in the old hospital, in Portuguese Alentejo, musealized for that purpose. Since then, it exhibits a collection of contemporary art from the collector António Cachola. He assembled works of Portuguese artists from the 80’, with various artistic techniques, assisted by the commissioner and artistic director of the institution, João Pinharanda, who supports the choices of the collector. Since the genesis of the collection the collector wished the public realm, which became embodied by the MACE. In this article we propose to discuss various aspects regarding the collection: its formation and characterization, the shift from the private to the public sphere, the distinctive profile of the collector.
