#Abstract
With 150 years of activity (1859-2009), the Geological Museum is the heir of a past classify by several important steps and personalities in the history of the Portuguese Geology and Archeology, who contributed, to its establishment, growth and prestige. Part of its collections, despite of their interest to the history of science, continue to present scientific value, which increases the relevance of an open discussion over the vocation and mission of this museum.
