#Abstract
The Museu de Antropologia e Pré-História Mendes Corrêa at the Museu de História Natural of Faculdade de Ciências do Porto, which origin go back to the beginning of the XX century, has a collection that is largely unknown to a majority of the general public and even to academics. Nevertheless it has contributed to innumerable research works and has also been displayed at exhibitions both in Portugal and abroad. The permanent exhibition consists mainly of archaeological collections and is organised in chronological order enabling visitors to examine pieces ranging from prehistory to Roman times. At the storage facilities, which cannot be visited, are preserved Portuguese and foreign anthropological, archaeological and ethnographical collections, numismatics and a substantial photographic and documentary archive(Cunha 2007, 198). This project comprises studies that happen particularly in constitution of the collections through the identification and register of the objects, the history of the diverse collections; the evaluation of the state of conservation, considering the means adjusted to the effective control of the ambient conditions, such as light, temperature and the relative humidity; organization of the spaces and the collections; and the put into context the collections through its musealization valuing its function and place in the exhibition speech.
