This paper aims to outline the Portuguese heritage by focusing on the two main decorative arts applied to architecture: glazed tiles and stuccos. The text also considers questions related to the built heritage as a consumer good and its importance in the construction of an urban image. Special attention is given to facade glazed tiles in Oporto and neighbouring towns, as well as their conservation status and the relationship between these issues and the concepts of museum town and in situ museum. The Baganha and Meira stucco collections are also examined in the context of their role as the core of a museum-like approach of the town’s built heritage.
