Leituras Contemporâneas de Colecções Históricas como Estratégia de Comunicação dos Museus

Documento (.pdf)
AbstractThis thesis tries to understand the motives that lead museums to interpret their collections using Contemporary Art, and how those contemporary languages are used to communicate with their audiences. Two different case studies were identified in this paper work because of their short term exhibitions of contemporary art for communicating with audiences. The National Gallery, London, and the portuguese Museu Nacional de Arte Antiga are two fundamental models for their exhibition and communicative practices. Their consistence and permanency are the main characteristics that distinguish these two case studies, by using contemporary art as a way of interpreting their collections and programming new exhibitions. Their purpose is to conceive new approaches to different visitors and improve different and more dynamic museum policies. Contemporary art provides an insight to actual social needs and builds a special channel to communicate with a wider population, so museums use it to diversify their exhibitionary speeches.
