#Abstract
Comparative study of the visitor management of museums located in São Paulo city. It analyzes the formation of two cultural attractions: the Immigrant Memorial and the Ipiranga Museum. The first, an institution created, initially, to welcome the newly arrived travelers to São Paulo and the second, a place designed, from its origins, to play the role of museum and monument. The investigation is based on the theoretical framework of the ‘new museology’. The heritage charters and national public policies are studied, focusing on issues related to ideology, the local community, the contextualization of heritage in urban development and tourist use. It examines, therefore, the two museums in terms of managerial peculiarities, analyzing the visitation to these heritage sites at the contemporary moment.
