AbstractThis article presents the main results of a study on the development of socio-educational function of the museum, built on communication, dialogue and education that took place between museums and the community. The analysis goes through the reflection of shares of democratization and responsiveness offered by the museum spaces, especially the disadvantaged social classes, cultural and economically. Finally, examines the use of museums as places of communication through the exhibition elements, lighting, ambiance, scenery, sound, color, or windows media museographic, text, captions and labels, among others. The research, which resulted in this work is grounded in the dialectical method, to be the best suited to the study of conflicts and contradictions experienced between the traditional Museology and New Museology, considering that it supports the introduction of diverse forms of communication. Adopts the contribution of Pierre Bourdieu to discuss the direct interference of "cultural capital, artistic and symbolic" in the perception of collections exhibited in museums and supplemented by Pedro Demo, which points to the importance of education guided in learning to learn", which indicates the formation of an active, critical and participatory. Uses literature and documents, questionnaire, interview and observation of museum visitors. This work is innovative due to systematize and analyze various forms of communication sought dialogue between the visitor and the collection, and able to communicate in an objective way, with several servants, members of different social classes, regardless of educational level or age.
