Os Museus e a Museologia : Instrumentos de Demarcação de um Lugar na Ecúmena Global
Fernando Paulo Oliveira Magalhães
Documento (.pdf)
AbstractThe museums have been important resources for the affirmation and construction of national communities. The transformation of ancient royal or noble palaces in public museums, or the contemporaneous construction of sumptuous museums, has symbolized the nationalization of the people and the exaltation of its community spirit. The museum and its objects materialize subjective feelings of belonging to new imagined communities. They are resources used to construct them. Over the nineteenth and twentieth century, the Empire square, in Lisbon, and the museums located there, were important agents in the nationalization of the Portuguese people (Branco, 1995). Currently, the European regions are seeking to affirm their identities through the heritage. In this process, the museum is prominent in the discourses that seek the regional affirmation in the European and global stage. In Portugal, specifically in Leiria, the establishment of a "large" regional museum in the district main city is an issue highlighted in the narratives that seek to address the place of Leiria in the successive maps of the Portuguese regionalization.
