Comunicação Multi-Sensorial em Contexto Museológico
AbstractThe new tendencies in museology no longer see museums as a deposit where precious objects are kept away from curious visitors and exhibitions are only to be seen. Nowadays much effort is put into making the museum a place for discovery and interaction. Spaces are moving away from the 19th century paradigm and are looking for solutions that will capture the interest of diverse audiences and cater for the needs of people with special needs. This is particularly obtained by diversifying communication techniques and by finding solutions which appeal to different senses. Objects are given to be touched, sensations are conveyed through different senses and language is used to create illusions that often compensate for the loss of one or various senses. This paper addresses multi-sensory communication solutions in the museum. Its aim is to show how alternative texts, audioguides and multi-sensory devices can make a visit exciting both for impaired and for non-impaired visitors.
