Educação nos Museus de Arte Moderna e Contemporânea Portugueses : um Lugar no Feminino?
Maria Genoveva Moreira Oliveira
Documento (.pdf)
AbstractWhy is it that the educative services of museums continue to be a noticeably feminine job? Could the feminization of this work be associated with the fact that this job has little recognition from museum specialists and managers? Could the little credibility given to these services be related to the meagre decision-making power these professionals have within the museum structure? How do we teach in museums? It is important to perceive education in museums as a discourse production practice. Education in museums is just as much an integral part of an articulated integrated social practice as all the other features of the museum. An educator is a “structurer” of social and cultural construction, as is the director or the curator. Education in museums begins with teaching and learning concepts, educative strategies in the rooms and the diverse museum narratives. The educator’s profession is asphyxiated between didactics, enterprising professionalism, knowledge, consumer culture, marketing and communication strategies and exhibiting. This is where the premises of subcontracting and the effeminacy of the work come in, both in education and in vocation.
