Marcas Comerciais, Identidade e Memória : a Revalorização de Património Visual do Período do Estado Novo

AbstractThe present work is part of a larger research project that is currently being undertaken. There it is proposed the articulation of historical and design influence as a means to the retrieval and preservation of memory, concerning the cultural specific such as local visual identities. From a design perspective the project relates to a reading of Portuguese trademarks’ imagery from the “Estado Novo” period (1926-1974) which have become cultural icons. The research process addresses the relevance of such imagery to the present design context. Through the construction of narratives supported by the retrieval of historical information, the project aims at a contribution to better inform design practice. The main case study that is briefly introduced in this paper relates to the retrieval and reconstitution of the iconic “Sanjo” sports shoes and their related imagery throughout a curatorial approach and exhibition, exploring the concept of “Portable Imageries”.
