#Abstract
This paper concerns the state of research of the PhD project on the Collegiate of Saint Justa of Coimbra: the configuration of a religious, social and urban space, presented, in 2010, at the II Workshop of Medieval Studies. The leading objectives of the PhD can be resumed this way: explanation of the collegiate’s institutional history; characterization of the chapter, the functions, the social provenience and the course of life of its’ clergy; identification of Saint Justa’s property and the analysis of its strategies of acquisition and administration; social and economic characterization of its’ parishioners, building tenants and other clientele; interpretation of the relations between this church and the popular groups, the political and ecclesiastical institutions, with special relevance concerning the relations between the church and its parishioners. In this paper, after exposing the study object, a brief state of the art on the theme, sources and bibliography examined, we seek to problematize the methodology of analysis practiced and to justify the definition of the thesis structure through the formal explanation of the decisions made until this moment.
