#Abstract
This article aims to revive the issue of Oporto’s Rua Nova, particularly in the 14th and 15th centu-ries. It is presented as an abbreviated approach of a research carried out, in the ambit of the master’s degree related with Medieval and Renaissance, by listing some of the difficulties and questions that were encountered and the problems that raised from this type of research and from the period under analysis. Its main purpose was to analyse the Before and After of the Rua Nova’s construction in order to understand how the Oporto riverside area was changing, was been beautifying and was organizing within the parameters established by the monarchs on the Rua Formosa, on the urban planning, on the social status desired by the people that dwelled therein or relating thereto, and also on the streets, buildings and spaces that communicate with that Rua. Finally, it is appealed for the importance of Rua Nova, as it presents itself as a page flipped over on the urbanism concept, without forgetting that it has became a major financial backers for the Oporto’s burgh once it was transformed into a royal jurisdiction, ceasing as part of the great episcopal lordship; it was, undoubtedly, a material and mental mirror of this city.
