O museu e a diversidade cultural na Amazônia : um olhar sobre o brinquedo indígena como objeto de educação intercultural

AbstractIn order to achieve the development of education for cultural diversity, this paper discusses the importance of the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology as a space for the preservation of heritage and the dissemination of the Amazonian indigenous communities’ knowledge. The communication is limited to the study of the collection of indigenous toys from the Amazonian Museum and the Indian Museum in Manaus, given their uniqueness and their possibility to become identity references of the local community, promoting a cultural education for the Amazonian peoples. The methodology -exploratory, bibliographical and documental research- is based on the theoretical concepts of contemporary museology for heritage preservation, communication and education, as museums are institutions inserted in the social, political, economic and cultural context of our time, relevant in the cultural training of individuals. The data here collected and analyzed show: i) The existence of tensions among traditional lifestyle communities and urban populations as from the use of industrially produced toys by indigenous children; II) The reinforcement of socio-cultural gender roles similar to those of urban cultures;III) The importance of recovering the myths and signs present in their scattered cultural heritage as the foundations of the symbolic redefinition of the cultural diversity from the Amazonian indigenous groups. Therefore, we intend to identify the materiality and the immateriality of indigenous toys as object-documents representing the Amazonian people’s knowledge on cultural diversity. Key words: Museum.
