#Abstract
The pajelança, Shamanism in which healing witchcraft is performed through the pajé when it deals with the incorporation of entities known as caruanas, has a system of beliefs that mixes elements from indigenous and African cultures with aspects of popular Catholicism. During the healing rituals, the most diverse vegetable species commonly used by the local people, make us think about the close relationship between this practice and the enviroment, not only with reference to the use of vegetable resources necessary for the preparation of medicines, but also regarding the sacred spaces (encantarias), reserved for the caruanas, which implies the need to preserve natural resources and the environmental balance to ensure survival. This work aims at a preliminary analysis between the imaginarium, the natural environment and its everyday life in the configuration of that system of beliefs, understood as cultural heritage, in the hope of making a contribution to the understanding of this Afro-Brazilian healing practice.
