AbstractKeeping in mind as reference the various international legal instruments produced by UNESCO, specially the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003) and the Convention on Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005), I attempt to present the Popular Artist Hall Program as a possible example of museological strategy, in full accordance with the main objective of the latter Convention which is the strengthening of “creation, production, distribution, dissemination, access and usufruct of the cultural expressions conveyed by cultural activities, goods and services”. Having been pointed out to compete on the list of good practices of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage for the period 2010/2011, the Popular Artist Hall Program of the Edison Carneiro Museum and National Centre of Folklore and Popular Culture (CNFCP) -institution that depends on the Department of Intangible Heritage of the IPHAN3- carries out national actions that implement research, documentation, fostering and dissemination of traditional popular craftworks. The constitution of heritage as a legal category and as an instrument of recognition and affirmation of identities, also depends on the institutional practices that consolidate and may have a positive effect on the local context of the learning by doing. This is neither about the acquisition of collections nor about opening a market space for symbolic property, it is about understanding the objects on the basis of the processes that involve them in their dynamic character. The said Program reveals the political, economic and aesthetic dimensions of the social life of the objects and of their creators. It encompasses the artists and the collectivities directly involved in that craftwork activity throughout the country. In addition to the space for temporary exhibitions, the Program has a permanent marketing space for groups or individuals to exhibit and sell their work all year round. Key words: Museology.
