#Abstract
In the present document we study the formative conditions found in the museums of Serra Gaúcha, located in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. In the studied towns, which refer to a cultural region, the creation of a local imaginarium related to the life stories of Italian immigrants is observed. This research analyzes the two main cities where the migratory process took place, Caxias do Sul and Bento Gonçalve, as well as their relationship with the local museums. Thus, the inclusion of training groups and agents involved in the visit to those institutions can be verified, enabling the relationship between the following situations: the Italian memory, as the forming process of the immigrants identity, and the visiting conditions at present. Very frequently, the Italian identity merges with the proper immigrant condition. This can be inferred from the duality between the constructed memory and the imagined memory of both continents. The museums are analyzed as depositaries and instruments of interpretation and heritage education. Key words: Italian immigration. Memory. Museums. Serra Gaúcha
