Documento (.pdf)
AbstractThis paper deals with the event called Beauty and knowledge - indigenous featherwork, a museological experience of an interdisciplinary group that works on three situations: exhibition, education and study of the object’s reception. The exhibition consisted of 206 artifacts from 28 plumassiers belonging to indigenous ethnic groups represented at the Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology collections. It was structured by Sonia Ferraro Dorta on two conceptual axes: construction of beauty (raw material and its treatment, ways of manufacturing and conditioning feathers and ornaments) and manifestation of knowledge (styles and meanings). The educational action focuses on encouraging, within the visitors, the desire to learn more about the complex universe of cosmological, socio-political and symbolic knowledge, elaborated by indigenous societies and revealed through the exhibited artifacts. It was developed by mediators who applied, within the exhibition space, specific strategies for organized and spontaneous audiencies. The organized groups experienced a dialogical activity in the expographic circuit and an observation itinerary was designed in order to prepare the spontaneous visitor to enjoy the contemplation of the objects. Moreover, a series of debates was organized to enable the contact between anthropologists and public, strengthening the relationship between university and society. As professionals of especially those related to featherwork because of their inherent aesthetic motivation. In this sense, a study on the reception was carried out which revealed unique features of the visitors interest towards indigenous matters, trying to understand their societies in connection with the Brazilian society which they are part. The object of this document is to present the process of conception and setting up of the exhibition, the proposal of an educational action and the study on the reception, as an integrated process that involves the conditions of production, transport and public uses of the musealized cultural heritage. Key words: Museological communication. Anthropological exhibition. Education in museums. Reception in museums.
