Um historiador «esquisito» : a Epanáfora Amorosa de D. Francisco Manuel de Melo
Maria do Céu Fraga
Documento (.pdf)
AbstractD. Francisco Manuel de Melo’s work Epanáfora Terceira amorosa, written in 1654, is a very distinct text from the bulk of his work – including the collection of texts published in a single volume in 1660 under the title of Epanáforas de vária história portuguesa. In fact, the distinctive feature of this volume is diversity, even if almost all narratives share the same historical period and the author’s common views, as he experienced in first hand the stories described, and his concern is to narrate and analyse them: the political nature of Epanáfora Primeira narrates the 1637 political movement known as «Movimentações de Évora», the Second narrative, Trágica, describes the destruction of the Portuguese fleet in France, in 1627. The Fourth, Bélica, is a narrative of the English Channel conflict between the Spanish and Dutch fleets in 1639, while the Fifth, Triunfante, narrates the 1654 Revolution of Pernambuco.
