Resume
Gilgamesh em veste Hitita
José Nunes Carreira
File (.pdf)
AbstractThe Hittites adapted the Epic of Gilgamesh to their language, based on the Paleo-Babylonian original version dating from the 18th century BC. It is more of a free adaptation rather than an actual translation, accomplished in the 14th century BC. Having reduced the episodes that took place in and around the city of Uruk (Erech), the translator-adapter paid great attention to the journey to the Land of the Cedars, located nearby. Although shorter and not as rich literarily, the Hitite text does fill in some gaps found in the Akkadian work.
