	Abstract The purpose of the present study is focus on a reflection about the Military Museum of Braganza, today, and its potential as a generator of social development. To carry out this discussion we consider relevant the historical research of the museum from the time it was founded, its mission, and the objectives initially proposed by the institution.The present work has the following aims: to describe the building in which the museum is installed, which constitutes an integral part of its value as a generator of local development; to carry out research into the process of the foundation of the museum, its objectives and its functions as a vital part of a major military complex such as the army base was at that time.
