	Museus e vizinhança : o desafio de partilhar território

	Abstract Inspired by the research project “Museums and their neighbors: redrawing city boundaries” this article takes shape within a socially responsible Museology, oriented towards sustainable development of museum territories. The paper states that even in areas that challenge traditional concepts of neighborhood and community, as is the case of nowadays urbanity, museums should give priority attention to their neighbors, while fulfilling their mission, and consider democratic strategies such as community empowerment. From a case study focused on Aldoar - a suburban parish in the city of Oporto - and the only museum in the territory - the Museum of Paper Money - a methodology oriented towards territorial diagnostic is built, and based on its application, a proposal for a museum sociocultural program is designed, entitled “Aldoar Forum: a platform for reflection, discussion and action”.
