#Abstract
This paper presents some thoughts about the chronological development of military museums in Portugal (Army), since the creation of the warehouses of weapons to the constitution of the current military museums in the dependence of the Direção de História e Cultura Militar (DHCM). The reflection includes a brief comparative study between realities, at the same time, in other European countries, so it would be possible to understand if Portugal was or was not influenced by trends from abroad. This essay was written based on the research study “The nature and management of museum collections under the authority of Direção de História e Cultura Militar (Army)”, for the Oporto University Humanities Faculty Master Degree in Museology, in 2011, under the supervision of Professor Alice Semedo.
