Museo provincial de ciencias naturales de Villa Escolar, Formosa : el museo como generador de cambios locales y regionales
Juan Friedrichs... [et al.]
File (.pdf)
AbstractThe incidental finding of fossils on the banks of the Bermejo River in the province of Formosa acted as an instrument of change for several activities, in a context suitable for the apprehension of new cultural possibilities. The first actors participated in the rescue of cultural property that otherwise would have been lost by environmental climatic factors. As a first step, the finding was documented and reported to local authorities, requesting them to ensure the means to allow them to remain in their place of origin. In response to this, a Provincial Law was passed in adherence to the National Law which provides for the protection of archaeological and paleontological heritage. Consequently, the relevant provincial agencies formed a Provincial Division for Social - Cultural Heritage, an institution centralizing the provincial museums. The Villa Escolar Provincial Museum of Natural Science generates collection, preservation and documentation actions that lead to research, interpretation, exhibition and exchange. The impact also triggered educational mechanisms for learning and specific training in these areas, which increased new educational scenarios. Up to date, different provincial and interprovincial agencies have also been involved in strengthening the actions generated by this new museum institution. But perhaps the most significant change was achieved by turning the whole population of Villa Escolar and its area of influence into hard workers and communicators of new findings that contribute to increase the collection, showing the commitment and seriousness of the inhabitants in regard to the work that is carried out by the Museum area. Key words: Heritage. Paleontology. Fossils. Transfer.
