AbstractThis article seeks to introduce the COPPE Space Miguel de Simoni, a University Science Centre located in Rio de Janeiro. Its aim is the dissemination of science based on the exhibition of technological objects developed in the COPPE Institute Alberto Luiz Coimbra de Pós-graduação, Pesquisa de Engenharias, from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - UFRJ. As there is still reluctance in the field of museology towards science centres, our purpose is to include the COPPE Space in the museum concept discussions. Considering these spaces as tributaries of science and technology museums, we analyze them as representatives of the dynamics between museums and society. Though this relationship very often transcends museological management, it is definitely part of the museum studies. Besides, their practices often show different aspects of conservation and dissemination of scientific knowledge among society and we could say that these places have at present the social function of museums.
