AbstractMuseums today have become a reference for cultural management. They not only pretend to narrate stories but to transcend the walls and propitiate the community networks. The following proposal seeks to reflect on actions that small, local museums, like the Museum of Water and Soil Technology, are undertaking as instruments of change. In 2004, the Museum was given in commodate to the Provincial Department of Water by the family of its founder. Since then, it is dedicated to environmental education. After refurbishing works in museography and building restoration, activities were encouraged creating networks with other institutions. As such, exhibitions, workshops and kite-flying competitions were organized jointly with associations, libraries and groups of adolescents from different neighborhoods. The Museum Night was held for the first time, including a number of cultural institutions, presenting several museums circuits to the community. This activity generated a network of libraries in the city which nowadays collaborates with the Libraries’ Week. Arguing that the small communities in the provinces, where budgets for culture are limited and government policies lack, actions and plans where, it is vital to promote networking from local museums, which can mobilize calls to support various objectives, in our specific case, to start with a program of community awareness of ownership of the cultural heritage. Key words: Museums. Cultural management.
