AbstractIn the XVIIIth century two double marriages were celebrated between the two peninsular royal houses: the first one during King João V (1689-1750) rule; and the second one during Queen Maria I (1734-1816) rule. In 1727 were celebrated the marriages of D. José (1714-1777) and of his sister D. Maria Bárbara (1711-1758), with D. Mariana Vitória de Bourbon (1718-1781) and D. Fernando (17131759), Prince of Asturias; and in 1785, of the Princes D. João (17671826) and D. Mariana Vitória Josefa (1768-1788), with D. Carlota Joaquina de Bourbon (1775-1830) and D. Gabriel de Bourbon e Saxe (1748-1788). In the double marriages of 1785 we have four important moments: the celebration of the marriages by procuration in Madrid and Lisbon; the exchange of the princesses in Vila Viçosa; the Portuguese princess’ departure to Spain; and the Spanish princess’ travel and entry in Lisbon. These four important moments, besides the complex cerimonial originated great feasts where decoration and ephymerous constructions had important roles of which are presented some exemples.
