#Abstract
Is there any chance to an almost disappeared social group be analitical and empirically rescued by a sociological perspective? We tried to answer to this challenge based on an etnographic approach to a relatively unknown object: the rural labour workers in Alentejo. Gathering qualitative data, based on content analysis of popular poems and popular songs of that region and on the testimonies of former rural workers, we build a reconstrutive path of historical mobilizations in Alentejo during the dictatorship of Estado Novo (1926-1974). Our purpose was to cover the interaction between cultural sphere, attending to its ideological and symbolic devices, and the process of organization and mobilization of the supramentioned social class.
