#Abstract
The odyssey of the transformation and of the legal regulation of family, in Portugal, follows the European tendencies; its course, however, developed slightly later, particularly after the 25th April 1974. In the present text, we analyse, from 1974 to 2010, the connections between the socioeconomic transformation of the Portuguese families and the dominant political changes and options concerning such matters, as well as the resulting mutations in family law that occurred in Portugal. To conclude that the motivation for political change and the political-institutional actions increase more the transformation of family law than the mutations inside the family.
