AbstractThis article explores the relationships between the school performance of the children of immigrants and a set of diversified variables that characterises children and their families (sex, national origin, parents’ social class), considering each variable per se and in simultaneous with others. The empirical evidence used comes from results from two different research projects carried out in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area: the trajectory school of 837 students of 5th and 6th years and the results obtained from national tests of 45093 pupils from 4 and 6 years (2009). From homogenising gender, parents’ education and social class in both projects, we encountered inequalities in school performance according to ethnicity. These differences become less obvious when students share the same social conditions mainly for less privilege classes.
