Resume
La representación del amor en la emblemática española (siglos XVI y XVII)
Ana Martínez Pereira
File (.pdf)
AbstractInfluenced by conventions, styles, and in particular, by philosophies and cultures, literature has used different forms to reflect feelings of love throughout time. This paper analysis descriptions found in 16th and 17th-century emblem books about this universal feeling that reveal a sensuality constrained by the dominant morality. As testimonies of that period, they also reflect divine love almost in opposition to human love. The classical images found in emblem literature serve the dominant stoic or Neoplatonic speeches that dominate this iconic/textual approach to the subject of glorious love, as seen in our study of the Spanish emblem bibliography of those centuries.
