Vizi e virtù di una «sociedad ensimismada»: Maria d’ Agreda e la Spagna di Filippo IV
Sara Cabbibo
File (.pdf)
AbstractThe essay consists of the analysis of the correspondence between the franciscan conceptionist María de Agreda and the King of Spain Felipe IV. The correspondance covers the years from 1643 to 1665, when both correspondents died. The letters show the connection between the vices and virtues of the King, on one side, and the public misfortunes of the spanish monarchy and of its people, on the other. Moreover, the advices given to her King by the mystic prophetess - who wrote the very well know treatise La mystica ciudad de Dios - make clear the biblical virtues to which Felipe IV has to summon up to solve his and his reign’s tribolaciones.
