As dinâmicas territoriais no espaço de fronteira na fachada atlântica peninsular: a eurocidade Valença/Tuy
Filipe Lima
File (.pdf)
AbstractRelations in the so-called border space have been acquiring a growing importance, as well as increasing their influence in the political, economic and cultural European evolution. In the specific case of the border between Portugal and Spain, it is possible to argue about an historical porosity, namely on the West front, which requires a better understanding of the territory transformations and narrowing, either through public policies (at community, national, regional or local scale) or through private investment, to explain or not, a growing articulation, and a partial integration, and, particularly, some aloofness regarding the use of space by citizens and consumers. On a larger scale: does the recent border cities policy, for example of Tuy and Valença, seek cooperation through development strategies complementarity in health, culture, retail and leisure issues? Or is it just trying to reduce its operational costs through merging actions? Anyway, the inhabitant behavior reflects more and more the emergence of a small “euro-city” or a small dual and bi-national conurbation. The focus of this paper is on this “euro-city” (and its neighboring cities in Minho), with a special regard on the realities, dynamics and potentialities of this space, reflecting upon the policies from the social and economic realities of the citizens on their day-to-day life.
