#Abstract
Over the last few decades, the number of second homes has been increasing at a very fast rate. It is a product that tends to the massification, but presents locative patterns that identify themselves with selected territories. Esposende, situated in the North coastline of Portugal, is one of those territories, which resulted from its natural conditions, its regional context (because of the proximity with important urban centres — Área Metropolitana do Porto, Braga, Barcelos and other municipalities of Médio Ave), as well as its accessibilities' development and the social and economic evolution of the population. Contrary to other more "massificated" territories, the second home in Esposende is elitist and owned, above ali, by high and high-middle social status, which originates a qualified periphery with appropriation models that reflect themselves in the rural and urban áreas dynamics of the municipality
