#Abstract
Tarouca is situated in a transitional territory and like other municipalities of the Douro region it shows signs of a regressive rurality or at its utmost of undergoing a slow process of adaptation to modern times. An extensive inquiry to the population of this council has enabled us to understand the dynamics of the migration and the movements of the social and professional groups better than we might infer from the mere study of public indicators. We immediately noticed differences and variations from place to place according to the characteristics of each community. We could find a tendency for a positive economic change, and this in part has been stimulated by the money resultant from emigration. In short we tried to show the dynamics of change that the situation and the localisation allow, make some suggestions for future action and mention points in the intervention that may be improved in the strategies that are being carried out.
