#Abstract
The objective of this study is to understand the notion of literary multilingualism through the writers’ experience. First, we will approach multilingual literature worldwide, focusing on the specific case of Portuguese writers. This study will allow us to contextualize the practice of literary multilingualism in various foreign and Portuguese authors and also to understand various aspects of this literary practice. We will see that literary multilingualism can assume many functions and be used differently by writers. Through this line of questioning, we will try to perceive how do writers consider the different languages involved and understand its relationship with their primary tool. Finally, we will apprehend the relations between language(s) and literature.
