	Gestão da informação / preservação da memória na era pós-custodial : um equilíbrio precário

	Abstract Traditionally, libraries and archives has been seen as repositories of memory, and this idea is connected with the custody of documents (physical media of information, mainly in paper) with the purpose of serving cultural and research interests (specially the historical ones). This historical and cultural heritage perspective has been, however, contested definitively by effect of the technological revolution which began in 19th century (the appearance of telegraph, telephone, photography, radio, cinema…), increased after World War II because of Information and Communication Technologies and reached its highest point with the introduction of digital technology and the World Wide Web, during the last two decades. Face to face with the traditional paradigm emerges a new perspective, whose object of study and work is Information, legitimating therefore the term “post-custodial era”. In this text there is discussed the need/possibility of keeping on preserving memory (informational one) in a time where Information is generated and managed at a crazy rhythm. Shall it be possible to make information management compatible with preservation of memory? Or shall this preservation be an inseparable part of information management with quality?
