#Abstract
In 2000, Brazil issued the decree 3.551 which created the national program for immaterial heritage, - Programa Nacional de Patrimônio Imaterial (PNPI). Over the next 15 years, it was possible to see museological actions including the opening of new museums related to the politics implemented by this program. Observing these data, the main goal of this article was to analyze how the role played by the proposal for the creation of the Museu do Samba takes on the process of safeguarding an immaterial heritage registered by the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional. The aim of this analysis was to think about the coordination strategies between the processes of patrimonialisation and musealisation under the PNPI (as well as the challenges and the potentialities). The analysis was made based on the literature, and a documental and field research. The study indicated that the uses and appropriations of museums and musealisation processes could help in the exercise of an active citizenship, which recognizes culture as an essential part of the local development, through socioeconomic and political actions.
