#Abstract
In the present article we present a part of the study carried out in the scope of the internship developed at the Museum of the Higher Institute of Engineering of Porto (ISEP) and whose object was the collection of artifacts from the Electrical Engineering Department, " redeemed" from the former Laboratory of Electrical Machines and acquired in the 60's of the twentieth century.
It seeks to relate knowledge and reflections of the field of Museology with areas such as Information Science and contributions that, in a holistic, systemic and integrated approach, position these materialities in their evolutionary context of production/accumulation and the Museum in the context of the management of a Complex Patrimonial System. It focuses on the general features of a path that is essential to understand and, then, describe the set of scientific and educational instruments which are part of the active and dynamic complex patrimonial system of ISEP. The approach values the organicity to enhance/to enrich essential operations directed to the representation, dissemination, retrieval and use of an information system, such as the creation of metadata (descriptive and other) based on information finding tools increasingly shared and convergently produced and used by museums, archives and libraries, rather than a mere inventory technical task.
