AbstractImproving the quality of teacher training involves learning new ways to teach and develop learning strategies. The national shortage of teachers to meet the basic education in all areas of knowledge , especially in public , became , in Brazil , a chronic problem having as aggravating the poor teacher training , which affects the low educational quality and high rates of school dropout and repetition rates in the country This reality requires the participation of the University on projects that aim to substantial changes in these indicators , mainly through a performance in basic education, with social quality . Considering this issue , the Federal University of Maranhão ( UFMA ) established undergraduate courses in Humanities , Natural Sciences and Languages and Codes , in six counties in the State of Maranhão, northeastern Brazil . Interdisciplinary training courses for skills and presence of teachers to act, more especially in the final years of elementary school. Having participated in the process of discussion and elaboration of these pedagogical projects , we aim to expose the course of this experience , highlighting their collective construction , and bring to the debate relevant aspects of the new courses that have been designed based on the principles of : competence as a nuclear design of the course ; coherence between the training offered and expected practice , research, focusing on the process of teaching and learning , academic guidance and regulation of learning and use of information and communication technologies.
