AbstractIn the last decades, western societies have been facing a continuous ageing of active population, namely resulting from the increase in life expectancy and from the raise of the retirement age. This active ageing, promoted by the States themselves, has clear consequences upon the labour market and forces us to reflect about the living and working conditions of the older population, including gender and discrimination issues. There’s a need to identify the new risks and challenges created by the increase in the number of older workers, in terms of health and safety at work, under different labour contexts. An analysis on working conditions reveals that older women and men face significant labour disadvantages and risks with repercussions for their health and safety at work. Health and safety risks associated to women´s work have been undervalued and neglected compared to those same risks faced by men, both in terms of research and of prevention.
