#Abstract
This paper explores the importance of Democracy in the portuguese context and in the european one, giving special relevance to the study of the democratic path of Portugal, mainly in parallel with its integration into the European Economic Community (EEC). The theoretical body of the paper discusses, fundamentally, the concept of Democracy and its implications at the national and european level. Lastly, are discussed some themes that put in practice the exercise of Democracy, in Portugal in a specific way, but under an extended reflection to European Union.
