#Abstract
In the last decades, tourism has stood out in different destinations in the world. Several stakeholders are involved in tourism and for the effective planning and development of the activity it is important that their opinion is considered. This study aims to identify the residents’ perception towards tourism in Joinville – SC (Brazil), a municipality with predominantly industrial characteristics. To achieve this aim, a quantitative survey was conducted based on the application of surveys to 498 residents of Joinville. The results show that residents perceive tourism positively, that socio-cultural impacts are more evident and that men perceive tourism more positively. This study concludes that there is a need to strengthen tourism in the destination through awareness campaigns and awareness among residents.
