#Abstract
During the last 120 years our society has been concerned about nature conservation and more especially about protected areas as the first and more important tools. Definition, objectives and legislations have changed through the time, from isolated spaces to areas included in international networks. This is the context where the Namibian protected areas network known as Conservancies emerges obtaining international recognition. This model can reach both conservation and development goals in the same projects. This article focuses on understanding the success of this protected area and the importance of the local people.
