AbstractThe teaching of foreign languages for specific purposes, especially in the business sector, should focus on aspects that help students to interact appropriately in professional communicative situations. Being interculturally competent is one of the qualities that companies demand from their employees. They are expected to assume attitudes and be equipped with skills that help them to solve critical situations that may appear in different work contexts. Some of these difficulties are related to the fact that the foreign culture is not sufficiently well known and that the approximation to the foreign culture is made from an ethnocentric perspective. Taking this into account, our study aims to analyze the representations BA students of Languages and Business Relations at the University of Aveiro have regarding German and Spanish culture at the workplace. Analyzing the data will help to provide strategies and resources for students to overcome difficulties at work.
