Uma viagem à Índia
, de Gonçalo M. Tavares : a paródia como ferramenta na discussão de estereótipos
Alexandra Lopes da Cunha
Documento (.pdf)
AbstractIn this oeuvre, Gonçalo M. Tavares revisits and deconstructs here again some cultural and literary stereotypes. The author creates a particular type of epic poem, one without the presence of the Greek gods, without the presence of any god, and does it in free verse (Eduardo Lourenço has defined it as an antipoem). In Tavares’ poem the journey narrated is the one of an ordinary man – not a noble and brave baron, as it is the case in Camoes’ The Lusiads ?, also a type of a wandering jew. The action happens in 2003, and the journey takes its hero to India, where he expects to find wisdom (the stereotype of the eastern wisdom), but only finds a mirror of what he already knows. The main goal of this communication is to explore the stereotype deconstruction Gonçalo M. Tavares does in his approach of the Portuguese voyager and the eastern wise man (or eastern wisdom), and the clashes resulted of this encounter.
