Meditações sobre invenções do oriente na obra de Milton Hatoum
Odalice de Castro Silva
Documento (.pdf)
AbstractLiterature and some reflective nuclei that provide interesting relations with categories such as West-East find in the work of the Brazilian writer Milton Hatoum (1952) a field of possibilities for his readers to discuss, through the writing of a fictionalized memory, concrete experiences in the "thickness of the daily (Kujawski: 1991), of the cultural clashes of what Edward Said (1935-2003) called "The Orient as the invention of the West" through Orientalismo (1978). In Relatos de um certo Oriente (1989), as well as in later works, novels and short stories, the reader discovers great themes that have occupied the philosophical reflections on existence, in family dramas, in confrontations with each other and their differences, in the conflicts customs, ethical and moral postures, through exchanges between the characters that populate the spaces of forgetfulness in the difficulties of each day. The meditations proposed by this critical exercise stage the myths of the invention of an image constructed in the noises of a strange language, in the different drawings of the Arabic signs and those of the Portuguese language ? in this space of thinkers who have stopped to meditate on the inventions of human existence.
